Striped Mud Turtle

 Striped Mud Turtle Photo Album

Thank you for stopping by the TGO Nature Center’s Striped Mud Turtle (Kinosternon
Baurii) Photo Album.  The Striped Mud Turtle is also known as the Three Striped Mud Turtle. Click on a photo to get a closer look.

Angeline Horton took the photo below of a Striped Mud Turtle on the golf cart nature trail on April 23, 2016 and said it was about four inches.  As we found out from Betty Salter through turtle expert, Kathie Benson, this is a full grown turtle but not an old one.

Here is how Gary described getting this photo when he sent it to me on July 16, 2015:

“Never know what you’ll come across in THE GREAT OUTDOORS.

Last night I walked my Yorkie past Dave Sibel’s pond and couldn’t resist seeing what was there. I was rewarded with this 3-stripe mud turtle happily enjoying Dave’s beautiful stream. Thanks, Dave, for creating another natural habitat to help Mother Nature take care of such diverse creatures. I only had a cell phone and a flash light but at least it helped Dave tell me what I found!

I read up about this species on Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website and learned it can take up to one year for their young to leave the nest cavity. Wow!”
