 Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake Photo Album

The TGO Nature Center is pleased to present a series of photographs in this photo album on the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. Most of the photos you can click on them to zoom in for a closer look.

Dorcas Whitley snapped this photo on March 2, 2017. She wrote in her email “I saw this by the nature trail along the fence where the eagle’s nest viewing was last year.”  Thank you for sharing, Dorcas.

David Hudson took the two photographs below of an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake.  David had this to say about the snake in his email:  “It was not aggressive and I was able to get several photographs. My guess is that this snake was about 6′ to 7′ long. The date of this sighting was 12/27 at 11:00 AM…..”  “The snake was on the Dog Walk that goes from Plantation Drive to Bay Tree. It was about 75′ beyond the Doggy Bag Station on the Bay Tree side of the trail… .”

David also wrote “   I am including another photo of the snake heading off the trail into the grass to show how camouflaged snakes can be.”

The series of photos below were taken by Darlene Durham of an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakeon the golf cart nature trail. Our golf cart front tire was almost parallel to this snake before I saw it in the grass. I told Taylor to be very still and quiet and I backed up out of striking distance.  When it wanted to cross the path, you better believe we let it! I only had my iPhone to take the photos with so to zoom in, the photos will be grainy but I wasn’t going to get any closer to this large snake!  We estimate that it was probably about six feet long.

Look closely at the snake to the right of the golf cart trail.

It started moving to the nature trail and I wasn’t going to get in its way! I finally figured out how to “zoom in” a shot with the iPhone.

We waited until it was well on its way in the grass on the other side of the trail before we high tailed it away from this snake.

The photos below of an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake were taken by Ron Pennell in February 2015 on the golf cart nature trail.  From a distance, it is hard to see this large snake as it appears to blend in with the landscape.  Click on the photos to enlarge and get a closer look.
