Welcome to the TGO Nature Center

Welcome to the TGO Nature Center

The Nature Center at the Great Outdoors, Inc., also known as the TGO Nature Center, is a Florida not for profit corporation.   We are located inside the gated community of The Great Outdoors RV and Golf Resort (TGO) in Titusville, FL.  Our purpose is “To promote the awareness, appreciation and conservation of nature’s plants, animals, birds, fish and reptiles”.  To learn more about us, visit our About Us page.

Our T.G. Carlson Nature Center building houses our museum, library, meeting room and a kitchen.  The building also has a screened in porch where you can relax, read a book or have a picnic lunch bug-free.  The building is open to TGO residents, renters and their guests seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Our building went from an old camp site to a new modern concrete building.  See how we did it on our History pages.

We have an “Education Series” highlighting some of the plants and wildlife you may see here at TGO and in Central Florida.  We will be adding more articles about plants, birds, reptiles, mammals and fish.  We also provide articles on other nature related topics of interest.  Click on the “Education” menu bar at the top of the page to access our educational materials.

Do you have a question, comment or suggestion regarding the TGO Nature Center or the website?  Contact us year round by using the e-mail links on the right sidebar under “Contact Us”.

Board of Directors Update

2015/2016 Board of Directors Update:

Terry Carlson provided a significant amount of money to The Great Outdoors Nature Center that bears his name and he was granted a permanent position on the Nature Center Board of Directors.  As of May 7, 2016, he has elected to leave the Board of Directors and amicably sever all responsibilities with the charitable corporation of which he was a charter member.  With seven years experience in the new building, capable management, continually growing membership numbers, and a sound, stable financial base, the decision was made to turn the operation totally into the hands of experienced, long-time board members.  Bill Grogg, Sandy Juba, Loretta Anne’ and Darlene Durham make up the new team.

Mr. Carlson asked for his release from any and all future commitments of his permanent position to the TGO Nature Center effective immediately and this was granted.  His position on the board and the right to name a replacement was also terminated.  That replacement position was held by Mike Fontana.

Most of the current board helped raise the funds for the “new” building and worked closely with Terry.  Their efforts were all worthwhile and, happily, new people continue to bring the interest and enthusiasm to the Center that ensures its future as a gathering place for nature education and fun.  We appreciate Terry’s confidence and wish him well.  In harmony with nature.
