On December 28, 2016, Jenny Koester, an Audubon Center for Birds of Prey volunteer released this  Red-Tailed Hawk at the Nature Center. Sandy Juba rescued this mature female hawk on October 30th near TGO. The hawk had a broken wing. Jenny explained there was no surgery to fix the wing but their purpose was to wrap it to allow it to heal and provide rest, shelter from predators and food during the healing process. The hawk gained 60 grams while in the center’s care. It was a spectacular sight to watch this hawk emerge from the box and taking flight. She landed in a tree for perhaps a minute before taking flight again. Hopefully she will decide to settle in TGO. Thank you Sandy Juba for rescuing this hawk and T.J. Fretwell for providing the photos. (Click on the photos to get a closer look at this magnificent bird).
