Alligator Breakfast Interrupted

On February 21, 2017, TGO Nature Center volunteer, Sandy Juba, helped the alligator pictured below when it got its teeth caught on a fence separating the St. Johns Water Management land and the golf cart nature trail/The Great Outdoors.  Here is how Sandy described this “rescue”. Be sure to click on a photo to get a closer look.

This 10 footer was stuck on the wire fence along the golf cart nature trail. He had acquired a raccoon but his teeth were stuck on the fence. I had to maneuver the fence a bit to release him but he finally got his breakfast. He kept trying to get back to our side. Luckily the St. John’s workers were there and lifted up the fence for him to pass through. He is now in the Greenwing pond.
