Board of Directors

TGO Nature Center Board of Directors

After being elected at the March Annual Meeting, the new Directors meet and organize amongst themselves, their roles and responsibilities for the current year. As such, there are not “formal” positions but “responsibilities” for the myriad of events and activities which take place. The Directors spend most of their time helping members coordinate on-going events and activities, looking after the Budget, taking care of any legal matters, and seeking out volunteers, who are the ones which make everything happen!

In 2011, the NC BOD submitted an entry for the “Trendsetter Award” which recognizes innovation in Florida communities. Please read this submission if you are interested in how the TGO Nature Center came about and how it has benefited the TGO community and its residents.

2015 – 2016 Board of Directors Update

Terry Carlson provided a significant amount of money to The Great Outdoors Nature Center that bears his name and he was granted a permanent position on the Nature Center Board of Directors.  As of May 7, 2016, he has elected to leave the Board of Directors and amicably sever all responsibilities with the charitable corporation of which he was a charter member.  With seven years experience in the new building, capable management, continually growing membership numbers, and a sound, stable financial base, the decision was made to turn the operation totally into the hands of experienced, long-time board members.  Bill Grogg, Sandy Juba, Loretta Anne’ and Darlene Durham make up the new team.

Mr. Carlson asked for his release from any and all future commitments of his permanent position to the TGO Nature Center effective immediately and this was granted.  His position on the board and the right to name a replacement was also terminated.  That replacement position was held by Mike Fontana.

Most of the current board helped raise the funds for the “new” building and worked closely with Terry.  Their efforts were all worthwhile and, happily, new people continue to bring the interest and enthusiasm to the Center that ensures its future as a gathering place for nature education and fun.  We appreciate Terry’s confidence and wish him well.  In harmony with nature.
