About Us

What is the TGO Nature Center?

Most people would think that the TGO Nature Center is just a building.  But we are much more than that!

The Nature Center at The Great Outdoors, also referred to as the TGO Nature Center or just the Nature Center is a not for profit organization.   We do have a building named the T. G. Carlson Nature Center after a member who made a substantial donation for the construction of the building.

The building is located on a picturesque piece of property on the bank of the Addison Canal.  It houses a museum, library, meeting room, small kitchen and a screen porch.  The grounds have a picnic table and bench for picnics or just to sit and enjoy the surroundings.  You can see photos of the outside of the TGO Nature Center here.  It is located within the gated community of The Great Outdoors RV and Golf Resort (TGO) in Titusville, FL and is open to residents, renters and their guests.

But the TGO Nature Center is also people – our members.  For a very low yearly membership fee, a resident of The Great Outdoors RV and Golf Resort can vote for the Board of Directors which govern our organization and members can make significant voice in the future direction of the TGO Nature Center.

Within our membership is a group of dedicated volunteers who are the engine that makes the TGO Nature Center organization run.  Our volunteers help injured animals, open and close the Nature Center building, keep the Nature Center grounds tidy, keep our library orderly, help at our annual flea market (which is a big fundraiser), lead hikes and field trips, plan socials and so much more!

Our Board of Directors, who are also volunteers,  spend most of their time helping members coordinate on-going events and activities, looking after the budget, taking care of any legal matters, and seeking out volunteers, who are the ones who make everything happen!

The TGO Nature Center building is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. seven days a week.  Come explore the museum displays, check out a book from our libraryread or relax on the screen porch or have a picnic inside the porch or outside on the picnic table.
